Butterfly baby bump

This time of year it can be hard to find locations outside of the studio that work really well for any session.
Mandy wanted something bright and vibrant in colour for her maternity session. I suggested the Butterfly conservatory. It is designed to look like a bright, sunny day, it's warm and dry and the plants make for a stunning backdrop. And it's a good thing we choose this place, as with wind chill, the day of our session was a very chilly one!
While Mandy did have her own gown, we also used one I offer in the studio as well (the blue gown) and the both looked amazing against the lush plants.

Did you know that a butterfly is symbolic for a beautiful transformation? Seems rather fitting for a maternity session!

Here are some of my favorite from our session!

October deals

October is popular time of year for many reason. For one it's the perfect time of year for family sessions.  The colours are just beyond beautiful, the outfits can be super cute, the weather is cooler. Great for family and maternity sessions. It's also just enough time before Christmas to start thinking about Christmas gifts, be it a framed family portrait for the grandparents or create a boudoir album for that special someone.  And of course it's Halloween... only one of the best holidays on our yearly calendar.  So what is happening at Icing Sugar Photography this month in honor of all this awesomeness? Well... in short; a lot! I've got a few different specials for you this season.  First up, on the 16th and 17th, we are celebrating fall at Woodend conservation area with Fall Mini sessions. These sessions are great for family, maternity, children and engagement sessions and this weekend should be the peak of all those stunning fall colours! Woodend has an amazing fal

Preparing for you Autumn Sessions: 7 tips

Autumn is one of the most popular times of year for a variety of sessions, for obvious reasons. I mean, how can you not enjoy those lovely pops of colours. It's an amazing time as you get to really play up your wardrobe and mix and match with some awesome accessories for that crisp weather. I want you to make the most out of your session and here are some great tips on how to do so. 1) Make use of accessories and clothing that play up the "fall" feeling. For example, leather boots, cable knit scarves and comfy cardigans look amazing on the whole family and can really bring a picture to life. Tip: neutrals do really well in the fall against all that foliage.  2)Timing is everything. Start paying attention to that shift in weather as summer melts into fall. Once the leaves start changing, call up your photographer and book a session. I know that I like to plan fall sessions, so chances are I've got a session ready for you.Typically October is the perfect tim

Choosing Your Location, Fall Addition

It's that time of year again where the weather changes and vibrant hues surround us. So looking for a place to take photos may be different than a place in the summer or winter that you enjoyed. Choosing a location that best suits you and your comfort level is important. It is good to pick somewhere that will make your session memorable and pleasing for you. Find a place that fits well with your personality and gets you to enjoy your experience. Some of my favorite places in the Fall time are Morningstar Mill, Malcolmson Eco Park both in St Catharines. As well as Firemans Park in Niagara Falls, McFarland House in Niagara on the Lake, and Balls Falls in Vineland.  Morningstar Mills is a heritage site located at Decew Falls. This site features a beautiful working mill rebuilt in 1872 and is surrounded with trees and water. It is a good naturalistic place to go, especially in the fall time when there are numerous colors all around you and a beautifully built mill overlooking some wate
