A while back, when the weather was just starting to get nice again I did a shoot with the beautiful Malissa Otting. Malissa came to me with this great idea of bohemian beach style photo session. Of course I was on board. No normally I do shoots with MUA Griffin Shields, however the date and time of this shoot Griffin was unavailable so I worked with up and coming mua Sarah Stechyshyn. When I was first starting out Sarah was one of my very first models. And that is one thing I love about my job, the wonderful people you and the long term friendships you create along the way.
We meet Malissa at her apartment for hair, make up and wardrobe. The beach we shot at was just a ways down the street from there. The beach itself was pretty cool. It was quiet with a small run off that trailed into the water. The remains of what were once board walks and boating docks protruded from the sand and water, parts of the wood had small plants growing from them. The sand was lined with trees and shrubs. And the light from the sunset all came together to make the perfect atmosphere and set a great mood for what we were hoping to achieve.
Now when it comes to photo shop, I like to keep things simple and natural. Yes I go in and clean the image up, I fix blemishes and scars, enhance the lighting and I really like to make the colours bright and bold, give them some real POP! Not this time. This time I played around with some effects to make the images more dreamy and softer. I tried to make this effect in the camera with a technique I had seen on pinterest, that involved taking a plastic bag, tearing holes in it and placing it over the lens for a foggy effect. It worked... sorta, but it was more like one of those mocking 'nailed it!' memes. So I bite the bullet and did that work in photoshop.
Well, in the end, the photos turned out amazing. Malissa is a great model, and Sarah did a great job at the make up. She even took some behind the scene shots too. Here are some of my fav. images from that shoot.
