Creating Creatives 1

I love photographing creative concepts. Next to boudoir they are probably my favorite photo sessions. Over the past little while I have done several creative concept shoots with my always talented makeup artist Griffin Shields. In doing so we have meet some amazing people as well.

Now, when it comes to creatives, (or you know my everyday life) my mind is constantly brain storming and bursting with ideas! To try and nail down as many of my wild ideas as we possibly can, Griffin and I started taking on days of back to back shoots, with a line up models and locations.

Our first set of back to backs took place at Griffin's house. I mentioned this beautiful apartment in my last blog featuring model S. Nicole Ametrine. That shoot was such a success we used this site for our first round of shoots. Starr was the first model of the day. For her I planned a bold coloured neon shoot! Filled with very dramatic make up and hair coloured bright green. We used a few different outfits, all neon and bright fun colours. We even got a little messy with some neon paint. After her was Shalik. Now I've worked with Shalik before, he is a very artistic model with a modeling style all of his own. Since we had already gotten ourselves covered with paint, we striped him down and drizzled paint all over him. To add to the effect we even took out a black light! The result was very brazen and artistic!

Our final two models of the I had never worked with before. I like working with different models. You always to get meet some new and fun people and its nice to have a variety in your portfolio.
Juliana was our model for of our 1920's smoky session. Shalik lent us a fog machine to create a smoky romantic atmosphere. With the sun streaming in throw the living room the effect was beautiful and dramatic. For Carly, I had Griffin actually glue lace to her face. (We used eyelash glue which safe for your skin and just peels off. It also dries clear) Dressed in black we created images that were a mysterious. They held an air of black swan meets phantom of the opera.

The following photos are some of the images from the day. They are in order of appearance in the writing.

Frequently Asked Questions about Boudoir.

Boudoir.  It's exciting It's inciting And it's confusing and intimating all at the same time!  If you are thinking about a boudoir I'm sure you have some pretty big questions on the top of your head. That's fine. I mean it's not everyday you are standing half naked in front of a perfect stranger.  So you have questions... I've got answers. Q: Boudoir. Pornography. What’s the difference? A: Well for starters Boudoir is suggestive, while porn is... well you know. And you don’t have to be complete nude or revel anything at all when it comes to boudoir photographs. One of the most important things about being sexy is being confident. If you feel that way wearing jeans, by all means, wear jeans! Or a button down men’s dress shirt. Sure why not? Classy, suggestive, and flirty. Q: Can you Photoshop my images? A: If you would like to have say, stretch marks, a scar, that unwanted, embarrassing tattoo from when you were 16...

Bohemian Beach Goddess

A while back, when the weather was just starting to get nice again I did a shoot with the beautiful Malissa Otting. Malissa came to me with this great idea of bohemian beach style photo session. Of course I was on board. No normally I do shoots with MUA Griffin Shields, however the date and time of this shoot Griffin was unavailable so I worked with up and coming mua Sarah Stechyshyn. When I was first starting out Sarah was one of my very first models. And that is one thing I love about my job, the wonderful people you and the long term friendships you create along the way. We meet Malissa at her apartment for hair, make up and wardrobe. The beach we shot at was just a ways down the street from there. The beach itself was pretty cool. It was quiet with a small run off that trailed into the water. The remains of what were once board walks and boating docks protruded from the sand and water, parts of the wood had small plants growing from them. The sand was lined with trees and shrubs....

Choosing Your Location, Fall Addition

It's that time of year again where the weather changes and vibrant hues surround us. So looking for a place to take photos may be different than a place in the summer or winter that you enjoyed. Choosing a location that best suits you and your comfort level is important. It is good to pick somewhere that will make your session memorable and pleasing for you. Find a place that fits well with your personality and gets you to enjoy your experience. Some of my favorite places in the Fall time are Morningstar Mill, Malcolmson Eco Park both in St Catharines. As well as Firemans Park in Niagara Falls, McFarland House in Niagara on the Lake, and Balls Falls in Vineland.  Morningstar Mills is a heritage site located at Decew Falls. This site features a beautiful working mill rebuilt in 1872 and is surrounded with trees and water. It is a good naturalistic place to go, especially in the fall time when there are numerous colors all around you and a beautifully built mill overlooking some wate...
